Amish Pretzels Recipe
2 cups Flour
1-1/2 tsp Sugar
¼ tsp Yeast, dry
¾ cup Warm water
½ tsp Salt
1 Egg
Salt, course
Beat one egg with 1 tsp of water; set aside. In a medium mixing bowl,
dissolve yeast into the ¾ cup of warm water, then add the ½ tsp of
salt. Blend flour into the yeast water (additional flour may need to be
added until dough is elastic and easy to handle). Knead pretzel
dough on a floured board until smooth. Make 1” balls of dough that
can be rolled into 12” ropes on the floured board. Twist ropes into
pretzel shapes and place onto a greased cookie sheet. Brush dough
with the beaten egg mixture and sprinkle with course salt. Bake at
350 degrees for 15-19 minutes.
