No stop in Ohio Amish country would be complete without sampling the cheese found within its heart. There are many places to purchase all sorts of foods, meats and cheeses, but the following cheese factories are some of the best to visit within Amish country. We recommend at least paying a visit to one of them:
Heini’s Cheese, Berlin and Sugarcreek, Ohio Offering free samples of over 50 varieties of cheeses, Heini’s Cheese is an amazing place to sample all sorts of cheeses. They also offer cheese-making tours in Berlin and sell other products, such as candies, meats, jellies and bulk foods.
Guggisberg Cheese, Charm, Ohio Originators of “Baby Swiss,” this cheese company specializes in Swiss cheese, but offers over 40 varieties of cheeses. You can also watch the cheese-making process and purchase Swiss chocolates.
Steiner Cheese, Baltic, Ohio Steiner Cheese is the oldest cheese factory in the country and was established in 1833. Specializing in old-world Swiss cheese, their focus is in award-winning quality and taste.
Broad Run Cheese, Dover, Ohio Located near three Ohio wineries (one of which is their own), this cheese shop is an excellent choice to sample wines and cheeses. Established in 1933 as an outlet for local dairy farmers to receive more money from their milk, Broad Run Cheese offers more than 30 varieties of cheese, as well as wine.
Ohio's Amish Country Cheese Tip If you like sampling, Heini's Cheese is the place, but if you are a wine lover, then perhaps Broad Run Cheese will be the choice as it is located near three Ohio Amish country wine makers. See & read more at Amish Cheese.
