Sugarcreek, Ohio
Sugarcreek is in Tuscarawas County near the Holmes County line, and is also known as Ohio's Little Switzerland. The village was formed in 1882, after the Conotton Valley Railroad went through the area. Soon, buildings sprang up around the railroad depot, and Sugarcreek soon got its name after a nearby creek. In the early 1800’s, Amish Mennonites from eastern Pennsylvania came to Ohio, and made the area’s first Mennonite settlement near where Sugarcreek is today. The village is a favorite among tourists to visit, especially the historic downtown area with its shops and restaurants.
